Guldenstadt's Redstart at Muktinath, Nepal, November 2008.
Mixed media, 37x28cm.
When I saw this scene, I knew it just had to be painted: the extreme
colours of the sun behind the mountains, the prayer flags flapping in
the wind and this stunning redstart all made for a good picture and
composition. Note the sacred sprig of juniper bound onto the
flagpole. All the flags have Tibetan buddhist inscriptions
on,
although they bleach in time with the extreme sunshine, and are blasted
by duststorms that rage every afternoon.
